My Project Life Photo Process

I’ve got to say, I’m feeling pretty on top of my memory-keeping game as we roll into August—I’m already dropping my July photos into my album like a boss.

Now, is this my ideal timeline? Absolutely. Is it my usual timeline? Not even close. Most months, my photos linger in limbo a little longer than I care to admit. But not this time! So I’m taking this motivation, strapping it to a rocket, and riding it straight into the next step for my album.

July kicks of the second album of the year which means another title page, and album set up. You can see how the first half of my album came together in last weeks blog post here.

This week, we’re diving into the most time consuming part of this project. Preppting, and dropping my July photos into their pockets.

I’ll be walking you through not just what I’m doing, but why I’m doing it—sharing my thought process and the intentional steps I take to prep, print, and place each photo.

This part of the memory-keeping journey isn’t just about catching up—it’s where the pieces of the story start to take shape. It’s where everyday moments find their home. Let’s get into the rhythm of making progress, one pocket at a time.

July was way busier than usual around here—and my photo count proves it! I ended up printing a whopping 138 photos for the month.

For comparison, my typical monthly batch falls between 25 and 40 photos, so this was a pretty big jump. (Apparently, I was on a roll with the camera—and honestly, I love that for us.)

With that many photos, I knew I’d be adding several inserts to my Project Life album to make it all fit. I always work chronologically, so I kicked things off with all of our 4th of July celebrations and then made my way through the rest of the month, one event at a time.

You better believe I had to document the internet being set ablaze by the affair seen around the world. I dedicated a full insert to the hilarious memes that flooded every corner of social media—because if we can’t laugh through the chaos, are we even doing it right?

I also added another insert that was a little more heartfelt—honoring the passing of a few iconic figures from our childhoods. It felt important to pause and reflect on how those people shaped our early years.

Both of these inserts capture more than just current events. They reflect who we are, what makes us laugh until we cry, and what actually brings us to tears. These pages document our present lives, but they also reach back into our past—into the pop culture, the personalities, and the moments that left a mark on us growing up.

It’s memory keeping at its most layered: funny, nostalgic, and tender all at once.

Final Thoughts:

At the end of the day, the key to keeping up with your memory-keeping projects is finding a system that actually works for you. Not Pinterest. Not your favorite YouTuber. You.

And let’s be real—you don’t need to chase perfection or constantly stress about being “caught up.” That myth is exhausting, and frankly, overrated.

Memory-keeping has its own rhythm! Some seasons you’re scrapbooking like a boss, and it feels amazing. Other times you’re just trying to remember where you left your tape runner. That’s okay.

Lean into the process, give yourself grace, and most importantly—enjoy the creating. Glitter, glue, chaos and all.
